Whoever said that a stone massage should only be done in a spa or massage center probably has never heard of a home hot stone massage therapy. With the proper massage supplies such as hot stones and essential oils, you can give or have a hot stone massage right inside the comfort of your home.</p>
<p>If you plan on engaging in a massage business or if you want to give your spouse a personal hot stone massage for his birthday, here is a list of basic step-by-step directions on how to give a hot stone massage.</p>
<p>Step 1: Prepare the basic hot stone massage therapy equipment that you&#8217;ll need such as a massage table, linen or sheet for the table, massage oils, massage stones like basalt stones (you may need 40-50 pieces of stones), and a heating device for these stones.</p>
<p>Step 2: Before the client arrives, prepare the massage room by draping the massage table with clean linens and by setting up a tranquil ambiance through pleasurable aromas, low lighting and soothing music.</p>
<p>Step 3: Heat up the stones that you will be using.</p>
<p>Step 4: Once the client arrives, give him or her ample time to relax before the session. Be sure to explain the process of hot stone massage therapy.</p>
<p>Step 5: Ask the client to lie down on the table. Place the stones on each side of the spine without coming in actual contact with the spine.</p>
<p>Step 6: Begin by massaging the face lightly with a coating of oil. Place four stones on the face. Put the first stone underneath the lips, the second and third stones on each cheek and the fourth stone on the center of the forehead.</p>
<p>Step 7: Massage some oil on the right leg. Rub the hot stone on each side of the leg and then place small stones between each of your client&#8217;s toes on his right foot. Repeat the process with the left leg and left foot.</p>
<p>Step 8: Go to your client&#8217;s arm, and use the effleurage stroke to coat it with oil. Massage the arm area by using medium-sized flat stones. After that, put a warm stone on your client&#8217;s palm. Do the same thing with the other arm.</p>
<p>Step 9: Now, it&#8217;s time to ask your client to turn over. Remove the stones you&#8217;ve placed on the face, hands and toes.</p>
<p>Step 10: Massage the back area using various stones to apply pressure on key acupressure points. After massaging this area, lay one stone on each shoulder, one on each scapular area and one on the client&#8217;s lower back.</p>

New research is revealing some alarming concerns over the safety of Statin agents and questioning their effectiveness in a high percentage of patients taking these drugs.</p>
<p>How do Statins Work? The process of producing cholesterol begins with a two carbon molecule, acetyl-CoA, known as the &#8220;building block of life.&#8221; Acetyl-CoA molecules combine to form hydroxymethyl glutaric acid (HMG). The enyme HMG-CoA reductase is required for mevalonate to be produced from HMG-CoA reductase. Statin drugs inhibit this enzyme and that is why they are known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. This is the reason for the reported numerous side effects.</p>
<p>Statin drugs don&#8217;t just inhibit the production of cholesterol. Statins inhibit the production of an entire group of intermediary enzymes and molecules that have essential biochemical functions. The mevalonate chain produces 3 end products and one of those is Cholesterol. Ubiquinone and dolichol are the others.</p>
<p>Ubiquinone also known as Co-Enzyme Q10 is an essential cellular nutrient formed in the mitochondria and is necessary for ATP production, functioning as an electron transporter to cytochrome oxidase, the primary respiratory enzyme. High levels of Co-Q10 are required by the heart to function. Ubiquinone, a form of Co-Q10 is in all cell membranes where it plays a vital role in maintaining proper cell membrane structure for nerves and muscles to function. Reduction in serum Ubiquinone levels have been described after statin therapy.( Mabuchi H, et al, J Atherosclero Thromb. 2005; 12(2) : 111-9)</p>
<p>Studies have shown that the use of statin agents for cholesterol control will reduce the level of co-enzyme q-10 by up to 40%. It appears that these statin agents, by altering membrane function actually also impair energy transport to these muscles necessary to keep them functioning properly. Co-Q10 deficiency can cause muscle wasting, pain and weakness and heart failure (the heart is a muscle!).</p>
<p>Proteins are synthesized within the membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum. This complex creation of peptides is directed by dolichol phosphate. The Dolichols are also critical in the assembly of glycoproteins, which allow complex protein structures to fold and interact with receptors and membranes. Dolichol-mediated processes create complex neuropeptides, and mechanisms critical in cellular communication, identification, and immune function. The reality of Dolichol inhibition by statin agents is evident and the resultant turmoil in cellular function is not unexpected. It is also not unexpected that altered cognition and abnormal behavior can result from statin induced neuropeptide formation.</p>
<p>Another common side effect associated with statin agents when used to dramatically reduce cholesterol levels are the neurodegenerative type diseases, almost like Lou Gehrig&#8217;s disease or Multiple sclerosis, and this is because there is damage to the cellular membranes that make up the insulation around the nerves. It is like electrical wiring in an old house where the insulation around the wire has broken down leaving exposed wiring.  These poorly functioning nerves and membranes result in muscle aches/pains as well as decreased strength and decreased nerve function. Memory and thought process may also be severely affected.</p>
<p>Drastic Cholesterol Reduction. It seems that a lot of these problems begin when cholesterol levels become elevated and aggressive reduction occurs with the use of statin agents. Therefore elevated cholesterol levels have been described as the initiating phase in the development of atherosclerosis. Of course, statins inhibit the production of cholesterol&#8211;they do this very well. Cholesterol is the body&#8217;s repair substance: scar tissue contains high levels of cholesterol, including scar tissue in the arteries. Vitamin D Deficiency and chronic low back pain in Saudi Arabia,&#8221; Spine 2003; 28(2): 177-9).</p>
<p>A number of patients describe gastrointestinal symptoms and diarrhea associated with statin therapy. Unfortunately after an extensive gastrointestinal workup, the statin therapy is not discontinued. Statin agents reduce bile salts production, which is required for the digestion of fat. Those who suffer from low cholesterol often have trouble digesting fats. Cholesterol also functions as a powerful antioxidant, thus protecting us against cancer and aging.</p>
<p>It is no surprise that the aggressive control of cholesterol, typical of statin therapy, in an attempt to reduce cardiovascular disease, in itself produces it&#8217;s own disease process. Even though statins have not been proven to decrease the risk of heart attacks and strokes for those not suffering from heart disease.</p>

ADD is when the reticular activating system in your brain, which is a part of your bodys central nervous system, is dysfunctional. This area of the brain is responsible for coordinating the information from one region of the brain to another via norepinephrine, due to external information. When it is impaired, there is excessive stimulation causing the mind to be overworked and unable to cope, leading to a lack of focus and other symptoms. </p>
<p>There are many forms of ADD, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Behavior Disorder (ADBD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD), to name a few. Of these, ADHD is the most well know form of ADD, and affects approximately 5% of all children in America, making it the most common neurological disease. </p>
<p>Many factors contribute to ADD, and the breakdown of the reticular activating system. Excessive sugar consumption reduces the brains sensitivity to norepinephrine, making it difficult for the brain to pass messages to different regions of the mind. Other factors include oxygen deprivation during birth, genetics, a dearth of nutrients in his diet, and substance abuse during pregnancy, among others. Statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health show that up to 5% of the population has ADHD, and that up to 20% of pregnant mothers smoke during pregnancy, with 11% consuming alcohol.</p>
<p>Common indicators that an individual is suffering from ADD include learning disabilities, agitation, aggression, short attention spans and poor memory retention. The symptoms of ADD are also easily confused with other diseases or attributed to different factors, making it difficult to diagnose. For example, the main symptoms of ADD are forgetfulness, restlessness, depression, inability to focus and impulsive behavior. However, thyroid, depression, anxiety, or a stressful environment can also result in the same symptoms. Excessive sugar consumption can cause impulsive behavior and restlessness, and allergies can cause reactions that reduce the neurotransmitters in the brain causing the same symptoms. </p>
<p>There are many treatments available for those who suffer from ADD, and the most common one is the use of antidepressant drugs. However, these medications need up to 6 weeks to take effect, and have severe side effects such as increasing depression, agitation, and suicidal notions. There are also alternative treatments, such as herbs and nutrients used to balance the brain chemistry that has been impaired. These are encouraged as they do not have side effects, and are specially designed to provide the necessary acids, hormones and neural growth needed to assist the reticular activating system. </p>
<p>For those who are suffering from ADD, it is recommended to cut down on sugar intake as sugar consumption is linked to aggressive behavior. <p>That is a slogan from Charaka Samhita, which means quacks arise if the king is incapable. Charaka, the legendry healer uses only harsh words to describe quacks and kings (administrators) that allow them to flourish.</p>
<p>Charaka Samhita, one of the principle treatises of Ayurveda dispels quacks or persons impersonating as physicians with strong words. Charaka, the Indian Ayurvedic practitioner of 2nd century BC flays fake physicians as messengers of death and their prescriptions dangerous than poison.</p>
<p>Charaka also describes the common traits of fake doctors  they are unlearned and lack experience or knowledge of medicines and treatments. They will boast their skills before uneducated people.</p>
<p>The principle advice of Charaka to ordinary people is to avoid a vaidya (physician) who shows off their knowledge. Avoid them like poisonous snakes.</p>
<p>It is quite usual to find people abusing any acceptable system and Ayurveda is no different. Just now Ayurveda gaining acceptability around the world can act as a great hunting ground for all crooks. Just as Ayurveda presents the most sustainable lifestyle for everyone, it also opens doors for crooks that put their eyes only on money. They don&#8217;t care about the life or wellness of the people whom they come across.</p>
<p>Ayurveda in Kerala and India is regulated and controlled and qualified treatment centers are certified. A list of certified Ayurvedic treatment centers in Kerala is available at our website.</p>
<p>It is question of your life and you can&#8217;t take a chance with counterfeit products, or fake physicians.</p>
<p>It is also to be noted that people are pushing a large number of products in the name of Ayurveda and herbal remedies. Among many of the approved products, there also are products that don&#8217;t use the correct Ayurvedic formulas. Some of the prescription materials for certain preparations are extremely difficult to find and costs several thousand Rupees.</p>
<p>Bogus claims are made their products do use the costly and difficult to find materials in their medicines. Musk from musk deer is an example. Hunting of the animal is banned in India and there is little scope of getting musk even for Ayurvedic formula preparations. Then again people say their preparations have used musk.</p>
<p>Peacock oil is another illegal item of trade. What is Amalaki?</p>
<p>Amalaki or (Embica Officinalis) is a small green fruit that grows at the base of the Pristine Himalayan mountain range in northern India. Amalaki is often referred to as the &#8220;Great Rejuvenator&#8221; or &#8220;Fruit of Immortality&#8221;. According to medical professionals, the best strategies for overcoming social phobia include varied treatments. These treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive group behavioral therapy and medication.</p>
<p>A doctor, specifically a psychologist or psychiatrist will determine which strategy is best suited to each individual patient in order to help the patient overcome their type of social phobia. This is done by assessing the severity of the symptoms that the patient is experiencing, the level of affect that social phobia is having on the patient and the ability of the patient to recover from their disorder.</p>
<p>Cognitive behavioral treatment or CBT is one of the first treatments that will be tried to resolve social phobia. It is a form of psychotherapy that has been in use for varied mental illnesses and disorders for many years. It works by analyzing the roots of all the emotions experienced by someone with social phobia.</p>
<p>The first step in cognitive behavioral treatment for social phobia strategies is to determine the negative thoughts that are causing the patients anxiousness. These are then put into different categories and help the therapist to teach the patient ways of controlling these thoughts, correcting the patients perceptions which result in these thoughts and then help them to restructure their thought patterns to avoid these unreasonable thoughts.</p>
<p>The strategies for treating social phobia with CBT involve varied methods such as attribution, teaching the patient the difference between irrational and rational thoughts, and helping the patient to overcome any past experiences that may have contributed to their irrational thoughts. In the case of children, psychiatrists can get to the root cause or trauma that may have resulted in their social phobia. They can help them to understand the event and learn to deal with what happened and cope with moving forward in life with a new positive approach and attitude versus forgetting what happened, which in itself is merely avoidance of the memories of those events.</p>
<p>Another strategy that medical practitioners find useful is cognitive group behavioral therapy. It is similar to CBT in its strategy for dealing with social phobia, but in a group setting with other people who are suffering the same disorder and one or more group therapists. The aim of this strategy is to not only overcome the negative thought processes attributed to social phobia, but allow the patients to realize that they are not alone in what they suffer and have support from people who understand what it really feels like.</p>
<p>There are other important strategies for overcoming social phobia that group therapy undertakes. These include:</p>
<p> Group discussions of each individuals symptoms, perceptions, experiences and traumas</p>
<p> The use of the group to show their support for individual social phobia attacks by encouraging the changes in thought patterns and perceptions.</p>
<p>The use of the group on outings to overcome social phobia attacks with people that each member feels can be trusted to not judge them or ridicule them. The group helps each member to avoid perceived embarrassment and the need to become isolated.</p>
<p> The group outings help individual sufferers realize that social interaction with new people does not have to be fearful or even judgmental or embarrassing.</p>
<p> The use of the group in varied situations in helping each individual social phobia sufferer to no longer having the need to put on appearances in how they look, behave, talk or in regards to their abilities to lessen the likelihood of misinterpreted judgments by others.</p>
<p> The use of the group in varied situations to support individual sufferers in learning that they no longer need to feel embarrassment or guilt in social situations.</p>
<p> Group discussions to help each individual sufferer in overcoming anger resulting from previous situations or traumas.</p>

<p>These strategies for overcoming social phobia have proven to be very useful in helping patients deal with their affliction. Studies have shown that both forms of cognitive behavioral therapies do succeed and allow each patient to move forward and enjoy normal, productive, socially interactive and happy lives. Of course, there are a few cases were the affects of the anxiety are so deep rooted that the individual needs to combine these therapies with medication. However, if you do sufferer social phobia, getting guidance from your doctor is the best first step to curing your suffering.</p>

All of us experience stress and anxiety in our lives. We are all familiar with the sources of stress and anxiety. They include financial concerns, work deadlines, providing for our children, countless tasks to do and errands to run, heavy traffic, relationships with co-workers, family relationships, and the list goes on. The irony is that the responses of our physical bodies that are designed to protect us can turn against us when stress and anxiety is without relief or prolonged. Under stress, our heart rate and blood pressure increase to provide our brains with more blood flow for oxygen and nutrients. Our blood sugar increases to provide us with more energy as we would need in a crisis. Our blood is routed away from our intestines in order to provide energy for the large muscles in our arms and legs for fight or flight.  If the source of our stress and anxiety subsides after a brief period of time, our bodies return these functions to their normal process.  If the source of our stress and anxiety remains constant then our physical responses become harmful to our health. We begin to experience insomnia, joint and muscle inflammation and pain, fatigue, hypertension, perhaps heart constriction, indigestion, higher cholesterol levels, impotence, either lack of or excess appetite resulting in weight loss or weight gain, weakened immune system making us vulnerable to colds and flu, and so on. Emotionally we experience feelings of irritability, impatience, lack of sexual interest, lack of concentration, depression, restlessness, excessive alertness and reaction to normal external stimuli, or feelings of being constantly overwhelmed and helpless.</p>
<p>Our bodies need time to recover from being in crisis mode due to stress and anxiety in order to restore normal physical balance and functioning.  We need a break from and relief from the stress and anxiety in order to maintain our health.  Some of us have had experience with prescription, synthetic drugs to ease anxiety and stress, but have suffered the potentially harmful and discomforting side effects which, ironically added to our feelings of stress and anxiety. A common misconception about sleep disorders is that an insomnia symptom is simply not being able to sleep. Actually, it is a lot more complicated than that. Insomnia is a complex problem that affects the nervous system and which can also be closely related to breathing problems or other chemical disorders. The problem of not being able to sleep is really only one small symptom amongst many others. All the symptoms need to be examined if you want to avoid what could be a very serious disorder and one that can progress and even become fatal if you are not careful.</p>
<p>Once you detect the early signs of insomnia like not being able to sleep, you need to look further and take extra precautionary measures to avoid the worsening of the problem. You can completely complicate your system by neglecting it and, although insomnia may start with very simple symptoms, it may progress into a deadly situation very quickly.</p>
<p>Lets not get ahead of ourselves, however. There are still some very simple and minor symptoms of insomnia which can definitely be treated fast without taking any drug medications. Oftentimes we find there is nothing to worry about. Still, this is something that must be determined according to the other possible symptoms that would indicate a more serious problem.</p>
<p>Heres how to determine if your problem with not being able to sleep is actually more serious than you thought. Have somebody watch you at night when you are sleeping. Have them examine your breathing patterns and look to see if you seem to be struggling at night to get a good, full breath. Are you snoring at night or having any strange sounds coming from your nose? This could indicate a problem with your breathing which is the cause of a more serious disorder known as sleep apnea. Similarly, are you having a prolonged period of days or even weeks where you generally seem sluggish and in a bad mood? Are you without energy almost all the time? Prolonged periods that stretch beyond two or three weeks can also indicate a more serious disorder that should be examined by a professional.</p>
<p>Some sleep problems are just due to certain changes in the body, including hormonal changes that affect the pattern of an individuals sleep. Oftentimes medications can complicate these problems and compromise the sleep activity of a person. The daily routine and the food that a person eats are also things that can contribute to more mild cases of insomnia but these conditions should also be watched because, in combination with a personal tragedy or other psychological problem, they can lead to more serious cases of stress or depression that bring about a more serious case of insomnia.</p>
<p>Once the simpler symptoms begin to occur on a regular basis or begin to build up and overtake the person, it is time to see a doctor. These symptoms may build up so that you experience total difficulty in falling asleep almost everyday and early morning awakenings with a constant desire to sleep during the day. It may also take you a couple of hours to get back to sleep and you may be feeling a bit irritated and full of anxiety most of the time. Here is a self-help technique that really helps you focus on and achieve your weight-loss goals. Gurus have espoused the art of detachment as a way of turning your dreams into reality. Usually they associate this technique with lofty goals such as perfecting human relationships or achieving spiritual harmony. I have news for you  it works for your weight-loss ambitions too. You should not make the mistake of believing that detachment is easy. In fact it is the hardest step to manifesting what you want. The harsh reality is that most people fail in their endeavors due to an inability to let go of their presumptions and believe utterly that what they want will come true. Call it faith if you like. But if you can detach from your fear of a negative outcome you will achieve fantastic results.</p>
<p>Have you noticed that sometimes you have an idle and relaxed thought about something or someone and the next thing that person or thing pops up in your life? Say for instance you wonder what happened to an old school friend. You arent worried about it, just inquisitive. You give it some thought and then carry on with your life. Often, very often, the friend pops up out of nowhere, saying they were thinking about you and decided to track you down so you can get together and reminisce about old times. Or maybe you wonder casually where you can find an oak tree to plant in your garden. And then you drive past a plant nursery and there is a big sign saying. Special on Garden Oaks, Hundreds in Stock. This happens to us daily and we think of it as coincidence. Actually this is the art of manifesting in action.</p>
<p>Essentially detachment means applying this kind of idle and unworried approach to everything we do, including losing weight. You simply have to lose the worry, the anxiety, and the fear. All you will be doing is cutting yourself off from the illusion of what tomorrow may bring. If you can do that you are on the way to manifesting your trim new body. Right now everything you are feeling is creating your reality. So how do you detach from your hearts desire so that it can manifest? The key to it is to let go of the notion that what you want is absolutely necessary in your life. In fact nothing is necessary if you really want it. It sounds paradoxical and it is. It also happens to be the truth.</p>
<p>Lets face it. You want to lose weight but there are thousands of other paths you could have taken. Your weight-loss ambition is a fairly arbitrary choice. The universe does not depend on it. Not even you or your family depends on it. So center yourself, find out where you are right now, find the beauty of the moment, and understand your weight-loss ambitions for what they are. They are subsidiary to the issue of being alive in the now. Here are a couple of steps to assist you in looking at your life, and your weight-loss ambitions, in a completely new light. Write down your thoughts in a notebook. It concentrates the mind wonderfully and brings previously suppressed thoughts to the surface of your consciousness.</p>
