Top Ways of Avoiding Cancer

Cancer is a disease that will eventually affect most of us. We will either develop the disease ourselves or it will devastate someone close to us. But there are things we can do to reduce the risk of getting cancer. None are guaranteed to work, but according to most studies, the following list of things does seem to reduce the chance of getting cancer.
1. Avoid the sun
We all like a good sun tan. It makes our normal skin look vibrant and radiant. But there is a price to pay for that look. Skin cancer is a disease that can be avoided by avoiding the sun, especially during the sun s peak hours. If the sun is unavoidable, always wear a good sun screen and wear clothes that will cover most of your skin.
2. Stay in shape
Most studies point to the fact that healthy and lean individuals have a reduced risk of getting cancer. There are of course other benefits to being in shape, like looking and feeling great. But there is no denying that being in shape is a helpful way of reducing the chances of getting cancer.
3. Eliminate Smoking
The studies are there. Smoking increases the chances of cancer by huge percentage. For people who are addicted to smoking, avoiding cigarettes is easier said that done. But avoiding cancer should also be their number one priority.
4. Eat fruits and vegetables
Again, studies point to the benefits of fruits when it comes to avoiding cancer. You don t need to become a vegetarian. But a good portion of vegetables or fruits per day can make a difference in the long run. So instead of reaching for that burger, think of eating an apple here and there.
5. Reduce red meats
Individuals who eat red meats have a higher probability of eventually getting cancer. So reducing the amount of red meat you consume can increase the changes of not getting cancer. Try eating a chicken salad instead. It could taste just as good.
6. Limit your alcohol consumption
Research shows that people who drink heavily are at a higher risk of contracting cancer in their lifetime. If you can t eliminate alcohol from your life, try reducing it. Maybe only drink on the weekends or during parties.
7. Exercise often
Not only will you feel great after a good workout, it will help you stay in shape and of course help reduce the risk of getting cancer.
8. Avoid salt
Salty foods tend to increase the chances of certain cancers.

9. Self tests
Be sure to always perform routine checks on your body. Do you see a lump somewhere? Do you see a disfigurement somewhere on your skin? Having stomach pains too often? Know your body and if anything seems fishy, see a doctor before anything serious develops.
10. Medical tests
Always see your doctor and perform all appropriate screenings. Screenings can help you eliminate a small nuisance from becoming a full scale disease.
